a short conversation with my wife about Hillary Clinton

[The Democratic primary in Georgia, where we live, is less than two weeks away.]

Me: Why are you voting for Hillary Clinton?

Her: Because I think it's really important that we have a woman president. In Alabama where I grew up, girls were told that they could be a teacher or a nurse, and that was about it. Electing a female as chief executive would go a long way toward challenging those kinds of assumptions.

Me: I hear what you're saying; putting a woman in the Oval Office would be an important step for the country to take. I just personally find Clinton's calculated centrism to be beyond distasteful. To the extent that I'd cast a vote for the purpose of breaking the glass ceiling, I wish that it were for Elizabeth Warren.

Her: We all wish it was Elizabeth Warren!
